New: Drip Series
Drip Series are the streamlined way to send a sequence of emails, text messages, or both — no branching, no canvas, just the right messages at the right intervals.
Drip Series are the sibling automation to the Workflow Builder. Same foundation, narrower job:
- Drip Series — a sequential set of emails and/or SMS messages, sent on a cadence
- Workflow Builder — full branching, splits, merges, A/B tests, conditional routing
If your motion doesn't branch, this is the tool you reach for. Less power, less ceremony, faster to ship.
When to Use a Drip Series
Good use cases include — but aren't limited to:
- Ongoing nurturing
- Monthly newsletters
- Product updates
- Holiday updates
- Quick one-off email blasts
If you need branching, list-add behavior, splits — anything where contacts should go down different paths based on what they did — build a Workflow instead.
❌ Don't force a Workflow when a Drip Series fits.
✅ Do reach for the simpler tool first. If it doesn't bend to your motion, step up to a Workflow.
The Five Steps
Same structure as the Workflow Builder, minus the canvas:
- Intro — a one-time overview you'll skip in the future
- Settings — name, launch date, UTM tags, properties
- Audience — who qualifies for the Drip Series
- Actions — the emails and text messages, in order, with wait times between
- Goals — optionally pull contacts out when they convert, and fire Actions on their way out
Goals work the same way they do in Workflows — once a contact achieves a goal, they're done with the Drip Series, and any Actions you've configured on the goal fire. Read more in my Workflow Goals post.
Get Started
- Open Marketing Center → Automations → Drip Series and create a new one
- Set your Audience — Simple list membership or any Global Segment / Advanced conditions
- Sequence your emails and SMS messages, with Waits between
- Add Goals when you know what "done" looks like for a contact
If the right tool is a Workflow, you'll know — your sequence will start wanting to branch. Until then, Drip Series is the cleanest way to get a nurture out the door.
