Convert a Lead to an Opportunity
Leads is in beta. It may not be turned on for your account yet. To request access, contact Paminga Support.
When a pursuit turns into a real deal, you convert its Lead to an Opportunity. There's no separate Convert button to hunt for. Conversion is part of your pipeline: move the Lead to a stage that converts, save, and the Opportunity is there.
How to Convert a Lead
- Open the Lead from Sales › Leads.
- Change its Stage to a stage that converts. On a new account that's Qualified.
- Click Save.
Paminga creates the Opportunity the moment the Lead is saved. You'll find it under Sales › Opportunities, and the Lead's Converted Opportunity column in the Leads grid shows its ID.
Which stages convert is up to you. Any stage can, as long as it also closes the Lead. See Lead Stages.
A Lead created directly onto a converting stage converts as soon as it's saved.
What Paminga Creates
Converting doesn't transform a person into something else. The Contacts and the Account already exist in Paminga, and conversion leaves them exactly as they are. What it creates is a new Opportunity that points at the same people and the same company.
The new Opportunity gets:
| Opportunity field | Comes from |
|---|---|
| Name | The Lead's Name |
| Description | The Lead's Description, when it has one |
| Account | The Lead's Account |
| Owner | The Lead's Owner |
| Type | The Opportunity Type your account was set up with (Standard, unless you've renamed it). If you've deleted that one, your oldest remaining Opportunity Type. |
| Stage | The first stage of that Opportunity Type's pipeline |
| Contacts | Every Contact on the Lead, with its Role and its Primary Contact flag |
Contact Roles carry across intact because Leads and Opportunities share one Contact Roles list. A role keeps its name on the Opportunity even if you haven't offered it on Opportunities.
If your account has no Opportunity Types set up, the Opportunity is created without a Type or Stage, and you pick them yourself. Paminga won't invent a pipeline position nobody configured.
What Doesn't Carry Over
The Lead's Type, Stage, Source, Rating and any custom field values are not copied to the Opportunity. That's deliberate.
Copying fields by matching their names breaks the moment someone renames a field, and it creates a mapping you never agreed to and can't see. Instead, the Lead stays put, and the Opportunity can always be traced back to it. Nothing is lost by not copying it.
What Happens to the Lead
The Lead isn't deleted or replaced. After conversion:
- Converted At records when it converted.
- Converted Opportunity records the Opportunity it became.
- Closed is on, because a converting stage always closes the Lead.
All three show in the Leads grid, and you can filter on them, for example to list every Lead converted last quarter.
A Lead Converts Only Once
Each Lead converts to exactly one Opportunity. Saving a converted Lead again, or moving it off its converting stage and back, never creates a second Opportunity.
If you delete the Opportunity later, the Lead still reads as converted. Conversion happened; un-recording it would make your history wrong.
